The Family Care Office at the University of Toronto has compiled a list of community centres and organizations that offer camps and other activities in the GTA and the surrounding area during summer. To search for a specific camp select 'Find' from your Edit Menu.

Please be advised that this list is for information purposes only. The Family Care Office does not run summer programming for children. Should you have any questions or require further information, please contact the camp provider directly.

NOTE: Extended daycare will be available at some centres only, and will have an additional cost. Some centres may offer subsidies. Please contact the camp provider directly for more information.

Achieve Camp for Girls

  • For ages 10 - 12. Full day, two-week camp
  • For ages 12 - 14. Full day, two-week camp
  • For ages 12 - 14. Full day, one-week camp

Combining physical, mental and creative opportunities for self empowerment, this camp will challenge campers to develop and grow. Physical activities are done daily in combination with group discussions, guest speakers and team-building challenges. Issues addressed may include nutrition, self-esteem, fitness, self-defense and group dynamics. Young women participate in the decisionmaking process of the camp, ensuring a relevant and new program each year.

Achieve Camp will be located at the Athletic Centre. Campers will explore campus with access to various fields and gyms for activities.


Adventure Camp

  • Mini Adventure Camp for Children 4-5 yrs.
  • Mighty Adventure Camp for Children 6-7 yrs.

This is a full day, two-week camp. Mini and Mighty Camps are exciting, full-day programs for our youngest campers. Adventure Camp features a variety of low-organization games and sports as well as sing-a-longs, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts and recreational swimming. Adventure Camp provides a wonderful program of activities that entertain and stimulate campers in a safe and encouraging environment. Register early – these camps always fill up quickly! These camps have a staff to participant ratio of 1:6.

This camp is at the Athletic Centre this year! Our home base is close to many activity spaces and to the pools for the recreational swim. Campers will have access to the gyms in the Athletic Centre and use of the grass fields around the University for outdoor play.


Aquatics Multi-Sport

  • For ages 8 to 12. Full day, one-week camp

Experience the wide world of activities available in the pool! Campers participate in water games, diving, water polo, synchronized swimming, competitive swimming and lifesaving. Campers swim twice a day – an instructional period from 9:00 am to 11:30 am and a recreational swim in the afternoon. For the remainder of the day they participate in various noncompetitive games and activities.

Prerequisite: Participants must have completed Swim Kids 7 or its equivalent (150m endurance swim) and be comfortable swimming in deep water for an extended period of time. This is NOT a learn-to-swim camp.

This camp is at Athletic Centre Pools.


Badminton

  • Recreational Camp for ages 8 - 14. Full day, one-week camp
  • Skills Camp for ages 12 - 18. Full day, one-week camp

Badminton camp offers campers a chance to learn or improve their badminton skills in this fast-paced and strategic game. Campers will learn serves, forehands and overhands as well as strategies for singles and doubles games. Players aged 8 to 14 can bring their own racquet or use ones supplied by the camp. Campers have the choice of recreational swim time OR alternate physical activity daily.

The skills camp is led by Varsity Blues head coach Wayne King and is for players aged 12 to 18 who have participated in an Ontario Badminton Association tournament in the past year and who want to improve their play. The camp has limited registration to ensure quality coaching and playing time. Players are required to bring their own racquet. Shuttles will be supplied.

Badminton camp is held in the Athletic Centre Sports Gym and Upper Gym.


Basketball Camp for Children 6-8 yrs., 8-12 yrs. & 12-16 yrs.
This is a full day, one-week camp. Basketball camp, for both girls and boys, stresses the fundamentals of running, shooting, dribbling and passing to enhance skill development. Campers improve their skills through activities and game play. They are also taught fair play, a positive attitude and teamwork. Campers have the choice of recreational swim time OR alternate physical activity daily.

The camp is held in the Athletic Centre gyms.


Basketball Skills for Boys & Girls 12-16 yrs.

This is a full day, one-week camp. Have you got game? These camps are an intense week of basketball instruction for players who want to take their game to the next level. The focus is on skill development with limited scrimmage times. Camps will be structured, fun and focused. Players will receive a basketball to keep and a reversible jersey (no camp t-shirt).

These camps are instructed by members of our Varsity Blues coaching staff.

The camp is taught in the Athletic Centre gyms.


Beach Volleyball for Children 8-12 yrs. & 12-16 yrs.

This is a full day, one-week camp. Serve, spike and dig in the sand! Players will travel by bus daily from Varsity Centre to Ashbridges Bay, home to some of the best beach volleyball in the world. Campers will learn the skills and strategies to enjoy this sport by playing a variety of games. Campers will swim occasionally at City of Toronto outdoor pools.

The camp is taught in the Athletic Centre gyms.


Dance and Movement for Children 4-5 and 6-8 yrs.

Introduce your child to the arts through physical activity. This camp is physically challenging and helps teach rhythm, balance, grace and body awareness. Classes are taught in a fun, yet structured, manner and are designed to help stimulate the imagination and enhance creativity while having fun.

This camp is held in the Athletic Centre's Dance Studio.

Children should wear comfortable, close-fitting clothing (footless tights or leotards are acceptable), running shoes or jazz slippers. Children will be barefoot for many activities.


Cheerleading for Children 8 - 12 yrs.

This is a full day, one-week camp. Do you love to perform? Led by the Varsity Blues dance and cheer team, this camp will have a high energy feel with a focus on jazz and hip hop. Learn dance routines and basic cheers. No previous experience or equipment needed. This camp does not have any tumbling.

The Camp U of T cheer team will have the opportunity to perform at a Varsity Blues game in the fall term. A refresher workshop before the game will also be offered. Dates for the workshop and performance will be confirmed in the summer.


Fencing for Children 8 - 17 yrs.

  • Fencing for Children 10 - 12 & 13 - 17 yrs.
    This is a full day, two-week camp. Be "en garde" in this camp! Campers will be introduced to the basics of fencing, including rules, terminology and different equipment. Taught by experienced coaches and athletes registered with the Ontario Fencing Association, this is an exciting opportunity to be introduced to this Olympic sport. All equipment is provided; please wear athletic clothing and running shoes. Camp size is limited. This camp is held in the Athletic Centre fencing salle.

  • Fencing (Intermediate) for Children 8 - 17 yrs.
    This is a full day, one-week camp. Challenge yourself in this one-week camp! Campers will have the opportunity to learn additional weapons and focus on the technique and strategy of fencing in this intensive week. Campers should have a minimum of 30 hours of instruction (e.g., attended two weeks of fencing camp/Intro to Fencing OR participated in the skill development program) in fencing before registering for this camp. This camp is held in the Athletic Centre fencing salle.


Field Hockey for Children 8 - 14 yrs.

This is a full day, one-week camp. Learn about the fast and exciting sport of field hockey! Boys and girls can develop core field hockey skills through activities and modified games. Equipment is provided although campers can also bring their own sticks.

This camp is held in the Varsity Centre.


Girls' Field Lacrosse for Children 10 - 14 yrs.

This is a full day, one-week camp. Campers will enjoy learning and improving their skills while being challenged by knowledgeable coaches and Varsity Blues athletes. Campers can bring their own sticks or borrow from the camp. Equipment storage is available overnight; please ensure all equipment is labeled. Mouthguards are required.

This camp is held in the Varsity Centre.


Girls - Only Sports for Children 8 - 10 & 11 - 14 yrs.

This is a full day, one-week camp. Girls-Only Sports camp is a chance for girls to learn and play organized sports in a friendly, inclusive camp. The camp is taught by experienced instructors and will focus on teaching the basics of sports in an encouraging manner that allows for maximum learning, enjoyment and participation by all campers. Sports taught include volleyball, soccer, field hockey and many more! Non-competitive, low-organizational games and activities will also be played. The camp will use a variety of facilities but is based primarily outdoors at Varsity Centre.

This camp is held in the Varsity Centre.


Gymnastics for Children 4 - 5 & 6 - 12 yrs.

This is a half day, two-week camp. Gymnastics develops strength, flexibility, balance, motor skills and muscle tone, and creates a strong foundation for future activities. Personality, confidence and self-esteem are developed, as well as mental focus. This camp offers an exciting and rewarding experience in a safe environment, where all levels are encouraged to participate.

This camp is held in the Althetic Centre's lower gym.


Leadership for Children completed grades 7 - 8 and grades 9 - 10

  • Leadership 1 for Children completed grades 7 - 8
    This is a full day, one-week camp. Leadership 1 challenges youth to develop personal leadership qualities through workshops, seminars and games. With sessions on communication, teamwork, identity, professionalism and goal setting, campers are encouraged to explore and develop their own strengths as well as identify areas in their lives to apply these skills. The Leadership 1 camp will participate in physical activity daily and other fun activities. This camp is held at Varsity Centre.

  • Leadership 2 – Leaders in Training for Children completed grades 7 - 8
    This is a full day, two-week camp. Leaders in Training is a two-week program. The first week features a series of workshops and team-building activities to develop skills needed to be a leader in a camp environment. During the second week campers will be placed with a mentor instructor in a specific camp to put their knowledge and experience into action, supported by a daily roundtable workshop and activity with their peers. This camp is held at Varsity Centre.


MiniSport Camp for Children 4-5 & 6-8 yrs.

This is a half day, two-week camp where the campers will learn the basic sport movements of running, jumping and throwing. Campers in this fun-filled half-day camp will play a variety of low-organization games, including T-ball, soccer, cooperative games and basketball. This camp is perfect as a half day alone or partnered with our gymnastics or dance and movement classes. MiniSport does not have recreational swim.

MiniSport camp is based at the Athletic Centre.


MultiSport Camp for Children 8-12 yrs.

  • MultiSport Camp (Full Day) for Children 8-12 yrs.
    MultiSport Camp is a two weeks of non-competitive activity program. The philosophy of this camp is to expose children to a wide variety of sports and to develop fundamental physical movement skills, while they gain an appreciation for personal fitness through the joy of activity. A variety of ac tiv i ties are offered, including cooperative games, relays, baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball and track. Participants have a chance to decide which sports are covered. MultiSport camp is based at the Athletic Centre.

  • MultiSport Camp (Half Day) for Children 8-12 yrs.
    This is half day, two-week camp. Mix and match this camp with gymnastics or dance camp for a full day of fun at Camp U of T. Please note: there is no field trip in the half-day MultiSport camp and campers do not have recreational swimming.


MultiSport Camp – Home and Away for Children 7-12 yrs.

This is a full day, one-week camp and one-week overnight camp.

This camp combines the best of the day and residential camp experience. In partnership with Camp New Moon, campers will spend three days (August 7-9, 17) at Camp U of T participating in MultiSport activities and a full week (August 10-16) at Camp New Moon in cabin groups with their day camp counsellor to participate in the overnight experience. Camp U of T and Camp New Moon are both fully accredited with the Ontario Camps Association and have dedicated, mature staff committed to ensuring a great camper experience.

Activities at Camp New Moon include water and land activities, outdoor discovery and arts and crafts. Visit www.campnewmoon.ca for full program descriptions. Bus transportation is included. All meals and activities at Camp New Moon are included. Additional tuck shop charges apply; recommended at $25/week.


Rugby for Children 8-12 & 12-16 yrs.

This is a full day, one-week camp. Campers will have the opportunity to learn and develop their skills at two levels: a learn-to-play program for campers 8 -12 and a skills camp including supervised contact for campers ages 12 to 16. Some prior experience with rugby is required for the skills camp. Campers will be trained by Varsity Blues athletes and coaches and will have a great time learning, being challenged and having fun with this empowering team sport. Cleats and mouth guards are required for the skills camp.

This camp is held at Varsity Centre.


Soccer for Children 6-7 & 8-12 yrs.
This is a full day, one week camp. Lead by members of the Varsity Blues soccer teams, these camps will focus on skills and strategies for this exciting sport. This skills development program will build on existing skills and work towards enhancing more advanced techniques and team play. Players will receive a soccer ball.

Held at Varsity Centre on FIFA two-star certified turf. Participants should wear shin pads and cleats. Please bring running shoes for indoor activities.


Speed, Power and Agility for Children 12-18 yrs.
This is a full day, one week camp. What's the difference between a good season and a great season? Want to get to the ball faster or evade your opponents more easily? The power, speed and agility camp can improve your game – whatever sport you play – by focusing on plyometrics (a technique that links strength with the speed of movement), explosive starts, mental training and basic nutrition for teen athletes.

This camp is held at the Athletic Centre .


Track and Field Camp

  • Junior Track and Field for Children 8-12 yrs.
    This full day, one-week camp that will focus on fun and fitness in the Junior Track camp by learning techniques for running, long jump and basic throws. Junior Track camp participants will compete in a friendly meet on the last day of camp.

  • Senior Track and Field for Children 12-17 yrs.
    This full day, one-week camp that targets the multi-discipline athlete, working on all events to realize improvements across the board. Athletes will participate in a mini-pentathlon and heptathlon at the end of the camp.

Both camps are held at Varsity Centre.


Volleyball Camp

  • Recreational for Children 8-12 yrs.
    This full day, one-week camp are designed to develop campers' volleyball skills in a welcoming environment. Emphasis is placed on skill development and campers play a variety of volleyball games as well as scrimmages.

  • Skills Camp for Children 12-16 yrs.
    This is a full day, one-week camp. Have you got game? These camps are an intense week of volleyball instruction for players who want to take their game to the next level. The focus is on skill development with limited scrimmage times. Camps will be structured, fun and focused. Players will receive a volleyball to keep and a reversible jersey (no camp t-shirt).

Both camps are held at the Athletic Centre.


Mini-University Camp for Children grade 3 - 10.

Specialize at Camp U of T this summer! Mini University offers full day, one-week camps where campers will immerse themselves in learning. Full-day learning minimizes transitions and encourages campers to dive into subjects. Some camps will have off-site field trips exploring new areas.

All campers will have a choice of physical activity daily, generally either outdoor games or swimming. Please read the swim section on page 4 for details on the swim assessment to review the choices available to your camper. Campers should dress appropriately for the physical activity period (shorts or track pants, t-shirt and running shoes are recommended). Please note that campers travel to and from various university facilities on foot, so dress appropriately for the weather.

Age guidelines are set by grade levels to ensure similar curricular and developmental levels. Campers who do not meet the appropriate grade levels will be transferred to another camp.

During the Law YSP, students currently enrolled in grades 10 through 12 can spend between one and five weeks at the Faculty of Law discussing advanced legal concepts, learning about the reality of the Canadian legal system, and applying their knowledge in a variety of stimulating environments. For high school students interested in the law and legal issues, the Law YSP offers an unprecedented opportunity to spend time in the fascinating world of Canadian and international law, legal thinking and advocacy. In addition to the enriching academic content, students get a taste of university residence life while staying at New College and participating events that showcase the city of Toronto.

From its home in the University of Toronto's Medical Sciences Building, in the heart of Toronto's "Medical Discovery District", the Med YSP offers students currently enrolled in grades 10 and 11 four unique one-week modules that each introduces a major medical discipline. Each module includes lectures from world-class faculty and hands-on experimentation, guided by distinguished medical researchers, in cutting-edge research laboratories. The Med YSP's unparalleled access to the University of Toronto's medical faculty and research facilities allows participants to experience what it is like to be a student at Canada's premier medical school. In addition to the enriching academic content, students get a taste of university residence life while staying at New College and participating in evening activities that showcase the city of Toronto.

DEEP Summer Academy
For students completing grade 9-12

The DEEP Summer Academy provides gifted and highly motivated high school students from across the world with the opportunity for advanced study in a variety of engineering, technology, business and science disciplines. This program has been designed to expose bright young minds with an aptitude for math and science to concepts and topics beyond the regular secondary school curriculum.

The DEEP Summer Academy 2012 runs Monday through Friday for 4 weeks during the month of July at the St. George Campus of the University of Toronto, located in downtown Toronto, Canada. DEEP courses tackle some of the most interesting and innovative topics being studied within the fields of engineering, technology, applied science and business.

Courses are designed into subject areas or 'streams' for the first three weeks of DEEP. Week 4 of DEEP is called DEEP Design Week. DEEP Design Week offers capstone courses that challenge students to put their knowledge to the test by tackling real-world engineering design projects. DEEP Design Week gives students a hands-on look at what engineering design is all about. Students wishing to participate in DEEP Design Week must also take at least one DEEP course in Weeks 1, 2 or 3.


Jr. DEEP Summer Academy

For students completing grade 7-8

The Jr. DEEP offers students the unique opportunity to learn about some of the most cutting-edge topics in science, technology and applied science. Jr. DEEP aims to engage students in grades 7 and 8 and encourages their interests in the streams through tons of hands-on and interactive activities.

Each camp week is 5 days in length (Monday to Friday). Supervised drop off begins at 8am and classes run from 9am to 4pm. Supervision is provided from 4pm to 5pm at no additional cost.

Camp U of T at Mississauga has activities for children from ages 5 to 16. Registration for UTM Summer Camps will begin at 8:00 am, Thursday, February 23rd, 2012.

Extended hours are available for working parents and lunch is included in the all-day programs. All of our programs are based on the Mississauga campus. For information on the programs and Extended Care, visit their website.


Dance Camp for Children 5-7 & 8-12 yrs.

A fun filled program for children ages 5 and up; with or without any previous dance experience. They will explore hip hop, jazz, creative dance and more. Dance related topics such as music, design of costume and tickets and promoting will also be explored. Children will also have the opportunity to play recreational games and/or swim. Each week the children will put on a performance on the last day of each session. Parents are invited to attend. Details to follow for registered children's parents.


Sports for Children 6-12 yrs.

  • Mini-Sport Camp for Children 6 - 8 yrs
  • Multi-Sport Camp for Children 9 - 12 yrs.

Mini-Sport Camp offers children 6-8 years of age the opportunity to explore fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing and catching while participating in introductory sport lessons, games and fun activities.

For Multi-Sport Camp, the days are well planned and packed with fun from beginning to end. A wide variety of sports are offered such as softball, basketball, archery, floor hockey, soccer, ringette and more.

Both camps offer day trips, special events, tournaments and theme days.

Camp emphasis is on fitness, skill development, sportsmanship and cooperative team spirit. Our summer staff consists of mature university students with varied sports backgrounds. The staff to camper ratio is ~1:10.


Racquet Camp

  • Pee Wee for Children 6 - 8 yrs
  • Novice for Children 9 - 12 yrs.

Each day specializes in fun filled tennis activities and skill development. The morning sessions will be taught by tennis pro's and the children will be divided into groups by playing ability. The afternoon program will be taught by our summer camp leaders and will involve games and fun activities. Campers in the 9-12 year old group will have some exposure in the afternoons to the games of badminton, squash and table tennis.


FORENSICS Children Ages 9-13 yrs. (Offers in 2 levels)

Explore the fascinating world of Forensic Sciences and discover there is more than meets the eye in crime scene investigation! Dust for fingerprints, collect and analyze clues and see science through the eyes of a Forensic Investigator and Forensic Scientist. Learn how they use the tools of modern science to solve crimes. This camp will provide participants with an introduction to the world of forensic sciences by providing a unique combination of fun, hands-on activities and role-play with comprehensive science investigation.

There will also be the opportunity to explore the physical part of being a police/forensic officer. Several workouts and types of training will be done each session. Campers will also be able to swim daily.


LEADERSHIP CAMP

  • LEADERSHIP CAMP I for Teens Ages 14-15 yrs.

    Come and join in and learn to be a leader! If you are ready to challenge yourself and grow through responsibility, then our UTM Leader in Training (LIT) Camp is the summer program for you.

    The camp is a two week program. Both weeks of the program feature sport sessions, team building activities and classroom instruction. During the first week, LIT's will participate two off campus trips. The first is an indoor rock climbing gym and the second, an overnight camping trip. Both locations are within a short bus-ride off the campus. The second week of camp is spent gaining practical experience through observing and teaching a lesson in Sports Camp. LIT's will also receive training and certification in CPR with the Canadian Red Cross.

    NOTE: A reference from a coach or teacher must accompany the camp registration at least two weeks prior to the start of the session. Included in the letter can be the candidate's leadership potential and other related accomplishments.

  • LEADERSHIP CAMP II for Teens Ages 15-16 yrs.
    Senior Leadership Camp

    This program builds upon the skills learned in the Leadership I program and is therefore a recommended (not required) pre-requisite. This two-week program is packed with activities, including a four day overnight trip to an outdoor educational centre in the Haliburton area, more extensive observation and teaching experiences in Sports Camp, team building activities as well as some resume and interview skill workshops.

    There is only one Senior Leadership session offered per summer and therefore registrations will require a one page description of the candidate's experiences with and their interpretation of leadership. This description must be received by the camp office at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the session.


BASKETBALL CAMP Ages 9 - 14 yrs.

  • Girls Camp (11-14 years)
  • Boys Camp (11-14 years)
  • Co-Ed Camp (9-12 years)

Have you got Game? This camp is an intense week of basketball instruction for players who want to take their game to the next level. The focus is on skill development with limited scrimmage times. Camp will be structured fun and focused. Players will receive a reversible Jersey with camp registration.


AQUATICS

  • Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid

    In this Lifesaving Society certification course, candidates will gain an understanding of lifesaving principles in water rescue. Candidates do a 500m endurance timed swim, learn tows, rescues involving conscious victims and stroke efficiency.

    Prerequisites: Participants must have Bronze Star or be 13 years old by the exam date to register. They must also have good stroke mechanics and swimming fitness. This course includes the Emergency First Aid certification. The Canadian Lifesaving Manual is also included in the cost of the course.

  • Bronze Cross

    This Lifesaving Society certification course is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training. This award is also a prerequisite for all advanced lifesaving training programs including the National Lifeguard Service award and Instructor certifications. A Canadian Lifesaving Manual is required for the course and can be purchased in person at the Membership Services Counter.

    Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid, participants must be 14 years old by the exam date. Please bring proof of Bronze Medallion to the first class. Please note: This course does not Include Standard First Aid


SOCCER SKILLS CAMP Ages 6 - 12 yrs.

Are your children showing interest in soccer? This camp will cover all of the basics needed for young players! Individual technical skills (dribbling, shooting, passing and ball control) and team tactics (attacking, defending and finishing) will all be on the agenda as well as some structured scrimmage time. Emphasis will be placed on hard work and fun. All participants will receive a Camp U of T shirt and daily lunch. Campers will need to bring cleats, shin-guards and a water bottle.

University "All-Star" Camps for Ages 6-12 yrs.

Summer holidays spent at the University "All-Star" Camps at Scarborough are days filled with FUN and FAIR PLAY, with GOOD FRIENDS and a variety of challenging and interesting activities. The University's art studio, theatre, computer labs, tennis club and recreation centre serve as a great setting for that 'on campus' feeling.

All camp sessions run weekdays from 9:00 am - 4:15 pm for 1-week intervals. During each session we offer different camps based on age (6-8 yrs. and 9-12 yrs.) and interest. Campers participate in their chosen sport activity (Multi-Sport or Tennis) in the morning; and participate in computers, drama, and mixed media in the afternoon.


Leadership Camp for Children 13-14 yrs.

If you are ready to challenge yourself and grow through taking responsibility, then the Leadership Camp is the program for you. This camp is an active sports-focused one in which you will work through a series of games and workshops to develop your leadership skills. We focus on team building and trust throughout the two-week program, so that you are ready for the challenges of working in a camp setting.

Features of the two-week session include: indoor rock climbing, resume writing, sports workshops, low ropes course and an overnight camping trip.
