March Break Camps 2012

The Family Care Office at the University of Toronto has compiled a list of community centres and organizations that offer camps and other activities in the GTA and the surrounding area during March break. To search for a specific camp select 'Find' from your Edit Menu.

Please be advised that this list is for information purposes only. The Family Care Office does not run winter programming for children. Should you have any questions or require further information, please contact the camp provider directly.

CC = Community Centre. EDC = Extended Daycare, LIT= Leaders-In-Training, CIT= Counsellor-In-Training.

NOTE: extended daycare will be available at some centres only, and will have an additional cost. Some centres may offer subsidies. Please contact the camp provider directly for more information.

The University of Toronto offers a range of camp programs for children of ages 4 to 15 from March 12 to 16, 2012. Camp programs run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with pre and post camp supervision provided during 8 - 9 a.m. and 4 - 5 p.m.

Discounts for U of T students and Athletic Centre/Varisty Centre members: Children of full-time or part-time U of T students receive a 15% discount on the regular community fee. The U of T student must be the main contact for the family account to be eligible. Children of members receive a 10% discount on the regular community fee. Parents/guardians who register online must pay the full course fee, and contact the main office at 416.978.3436 within three weeks to request the discount.

Golf Camp

Ages: 8 - 11 and 12 - 15
Cost: $350

Golf Camp helps boys and girls improve their skills, fitness and knowledge in a positive environment where the emphasis is on having fun. This flexible and innovative camp challenges both beginner and advanced players through programming that includes three hours each of golf and multisport activities daily. Held under the dome at Varsity Centre and led by Angus Glen professionals and Camp U of T staff, this camp provides a unique opportunity for kids to get a head start on improving their game for the summer golf season.

Campers will benefit from the small group learning experience with a ratio of six campers to one golf professional. It is recommended that participants supply their own equipment; although a limited amount of clubs are available to borrow from Angus Glen. This camp is held primarily at Varsity Centre; pick up and drop off are at Varsity Centre. Pre and post camp care from 8 -9am and 4-5pm is included.


Gymnastics Camp

Ages: 4 - 5 and 6 - 12
Cost: $295

Boys and girls work with NCCP-certified coaches to develop their gymnastics abilities, build self confidence and have fun in a supportive environment. The program is designed to teach children to tumble, swing, balance and spring from a foundation of fun, fitness and fundamentals. Children will also participate in arts and crafts and other low organization games. This camp is held primarily at the Athletic Centre; pick up and drop off are at the Athletic Centre. Pre and post camp care from 8 -9am and 4-5pm is included. Campers MUST be the minimum age for their group by the first day of camp.

Campers will be participating in an outdoor activity each day at lunch time; weather permitting. Please ensure that your child brings clothing appropriate to the weather. Campers ages 6+ will have recreational swimming on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.


Mini University - Leadership 1
Ages: youth grade 7 - 8
Cost: $250

Leadership 1 challenges youth in grades 7 and 8 to develop personal leadership qualities through workshops, seminars and games. With sessions on communication, teamwork, identity, professionalism and goal setting youth are encouraged to explore and develop their own strengths as well as identify areas in their lives to apply these skills. The Leadership 1 camp will participate in physical activity daily and other fun activities. This camp is held primarily at the Athletic Centre; pick up and drop off are at the Athletic Centre. Pre and post camp care from 8 - 9am and 4-5pm is included.

Campers should dress for the weather as they will be participating in an outdoor activity daily.


Multisport

Ages: 6 - 7 and 8 - 11
Cost: $250

MultiSport camp is a non-competitive activity program. This camp exposes children 6 - 7 and 8 - 11 to a variety of sports and develops fundamental movement skills. A variety of activities are offered including cooperative games, basketball, volleyball and soccer. Campers will skate twice a week at Varsity Arena (helmets and skates required) and swim occasionally. This camp is held primarily at Varsity Centre; pick up and drop off are at Varsity Centre. Pre and post camp care from 8-9am and 4-5pm is included.

Campers will be participating in an outdoor activity each day at lunch time; weather permitting. Please ensure that your child brings clothing appropriate to the weather.


Extended care available

Cost: $25+HST

Need a bit more time to pick up? A limited number of spaces are available for supervision between 5 - 6 pm. Campers must pre-register and registration is done by the week.

Supervision from 8 - 9am and 4 - 5pm is included with all Camp U of T registrations at no additional cost.


Parking and lunch service

Parking passes are not available for March break camps. Parents/guardians are encouraged to use transit to arrive on campus or to use the various pay parking lots on campus for pick up and drop off.

March Break Engineering & Medicine Program

Grades: 5 - 8

The University of Toronto's Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering and the Faculty of Medicine have partnered to offer a four-day intensive program for students in grades 5 through 8 which features an engineering stream and a medicine stream.

In the Engineering stream, students will be introduced to fundamental concepts in science and engineering through hands-on activities. Campers will put their creativity to the test as they explore the Engineering design process by designing, constructing and testing their own creations.

In the Medicine stream, students will take part in several workshops, hear from leading experts and be introduced to different disciplines in the world of medicine. They will measure vital signs, hear about biomedical research and learn how to deal with life-threatening emergencies.

The March Break Engineering & Medicine Experience Program is five days in length from Monday March 12th to Friday March 16th. The program will take place primarily at OISE, and supervised drop-off begins at 8:00 a.m., with classes running from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Supervision is provided from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at no additional cose.
